Waldemar Cubilla 🇦🇷

Waldemar Cubilla is a promoter of reading and access to books both inside and outside prisons. He is also a professor at the National University of San Martín, where he coordinates the Justice and Human Rights program. This program educates and reflects on experiences of injustice both inside and outside prison, working both with students who are and are not incarcerated. Waldemar is also the Provincial Director of Comprehensive Approaches and Alternative Measures for Individuals in Conflict with Criminal Law at the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights of the Province of Buenos Aires, with the goal of promoting cultural development and educational opportunities in prisons.

In his personal and professional journey, Waldemar earned a degree in Sociology, completing much of his studies while incarcerated. After surviving a 10-year sentence by creating libraries in prisons, he founded the Biblioteca Popular La Carcova in his own community upon release. La Carcova has become one of the region’s most distinguished educational and cultural initiatives, with a focus on designing strategies to promote reading and access to books for children and youth.
